FAQs about VINYL FLOORING

Are design floorings suitable for moisture-prone rooms?

Are design floorings suitable for moisture-prone rooms?

Our design flooring solutions can be used in damp locations without any problems since the floorings do not swell or crack thanks to their resistance to moisture. The design flooring must be glued across its whole surface. Loose floors or click-lock floorings are not water-tight, so moisture can seep into the subsurface.

How UV-resistant are vinyl design flooring solutions?

How UV-resistant are vinyl design flooring solutions?

Our vinyl design flooring solutions are extremely UV-resistant with a colour fastness rating of > 6 (EN 20105-B02/2).

What should be taken into account when using vinyl design flooring solutions in doctors' practices?

What should be taken into account when using vinyl design flooring solutions in doctors' practices?

An additional coating or finish (two-component only) should be applied to the flooring due to the use of widely different disinfectants and to improve the flooring cleanability. The surface that you select should not be too richly textured either.

How large should the border and expansion joints be in vinyl design flooring solutions?

How large should the border and expansion joints be in vinyl design flooring solutions?

The border joint should always be left with a gap since it provides sound insulation. If the flooring runs up to the wall, sound bridges may be created. In click-lock floorings, the size of the border joint is determined by the surface size and, consequently, the thermal expansion coefficient.

Are design floorings harmful to health, particularly children's health?

Are design floorings harmful to health, particularly children's health?

Our design floorings are tested for harmful substances such as heavy metals and emissions on a regular basis (also see "Interior climate" in main menu). Findings show levels which are far below the permitted limits established under law. Our production plant is also certified to ISO 9001 and 14001, which means that no recycled plastics from unknown sources are used in manufacturing; only granulates with fully traceable ingredients are used. Using our floorings should therefore not be regarded as harmful to health in any way whatsoever.

What are phthalates and plasticisers? Are they contained in your design floorings?

What are phthalates and plasticisers? Are they contained in your design floorings?

PVC starts off as a hard plastic which must be made soft and flexible before it can be laid as flooring. The chemicals which make PVC softer, more flexible and ready for use in flooring are called plasticisers. Phthalates (pronounced fa-lates) are the plasticisers most commonly used in PVC flooring production. Although there is no conclusive proof to date despite a plethora of scientific studies, phthalates are suspected to have an adverse effect on the human body and the environment.

PROJECT FLOORS stopped using phthalate plasticisers voluntarily back in early 2013. One alternative used is Hexamoll® DINCH®, which BASF developed for applications with close human contact, such as toys, food packaging or medical products. You can find more information on this topic on the "Plasticisers" page, found under "Sustainability" in the main menu.

What kind of warranty do you provide with your products?

What kind of warranty do you provide with your products?

On request, we can provide a guarantee of up to 20 years, depending on the area of application and the product used.

How are vinyl flooring solutions fitted?

How are vinyl flooring solutions fitted?

PROJECT FLOORS vinyl flooring solutions are not DIY products sold in home and garden stores. A correctly prepared subsurface is essential for a perfect result as is the right adhesive for fixed products. The subsurface conditions may require the use of a levelling compound to ensure a smooth surface without any dents or holes. Such imperfections will show in the flooring surface if they are not filled.
